About Me
Hello! My name is Bianca Blaney and I am an 8th grade science teacher at Lamar Middle School in Austin ISD. The 2020-2021 school year is my first year at Lamar, and I am so excited to be a Scottie!
I graduated from the UTeach Natural Sciences program at the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors of Science in Biology, and am a certified to teach Science Grades 7-12 in the state of Texas. Before coming to Lamar I previously taught 8th grade Earth Science at Kealing Middle School, Austin ISD.
I have lived in Texas since 2006, growing up North of Dallas, but I was originally born in Northwest Indiana, and lived an hour outside of Chicago. When I'm not teaching I love to practice music, mostly playing piano, however I recently learned how to play the guitar. When I have the time you can also find me birding, crocheting, walking dogs at the animal shelter, or watching anything Star Wars. Over the summer I am Assistant Program Director at a summer camp in North Texas, and I love that I have the opportunity to work with kids in different ways year round. I also love to travel, and have recently traveled to Germany, London, Paris, and most notably Costa Rica to visit my extended family there.
Teaching middle school is my passion, and I am looking forward to getting to know my students and teaching them all about science! Even though this school year will look a little different due to COVID-19, I am so excited to get started on what will be an awesome school year regardless.
